Hi,
Over the last few days I’ve been rushing to get a new tool at Now
Sell! ready in time to tell you about it today. I say ‘tool’ but
in reality it’s too simple to really warrant such a description.
Nevertheless, it is extremely useful. It makes it easy to quickly
submit URLs to all the major search engines by hand. Which -
according to just about every authority on search engines - is
what you should do with all your most important URLs.
I actually came up with the idea as a means to help me maintain a
regular program of submissions for Now Sell!. However, after
using it and finding it to be a real time saver, it occurred to
me that I probably wasn’t the only one that would appreciate not
having to spend ages visiting umpteen bookmarks in order to
manually submit my URLs.
In essence all the manual submit ‘tool’ consist of is a page with
links to five pop-up display windows, that are each divided into
five frames. Four of the frames fill 90% of the window, with each
displaying the submission page of a major search engine. The
fifth is a small ‘control panel’ frame across the bottom of the
window, with links to close the window, or load into it any one
of the five submission page groups.
Though I generally avoid the use of frames, they are essential in
this case. Unfortunately though, that obviously means you won’t
be able to use the feature if you have a browser that isn’t
capable of displaying them. Sorry about that.
Not sure whether or not your browser can display frames? Well,
unless it’s very old, it probably can. The easiest way to check,
is to head over to Now Sell! and try it out. If you see a page
containing nothing but a longwinded, keyword dense paragraph
informing you that the page uses frames, then you’ll know your
browser doesn’t support them! 
I’ve provided simple instructions on how to submit your site on
the main page. However, you might want to carry out the first of
them, which is to create an URL file, before you visit. This is
just a plain text document where you will put the URL to every
page on your site, one per line, starting with your homepage.
With an URL file you can simply copy the URL you are submitting
and paste it into the search engine’s submission forms. This
makes the whole process considerably faster and, *more accurate*
than manually typing in the URL over and over again. Many of the
search engines require you provide them with an email address so
you might like to include this in your file as well. I strongly
suggest you get a multiple clipboard utility, so that you can
paste in your email address at the same time as well.

I use CopyPaste (I plug this so often I ought to get paid for
it!). It’s brilliant. It gives you *100* clipboards that are
saved through restarts/shutdown. It does loads of other neat,
useful things too. It’s shareware. And it’s indispensable! You
can find download links for both the original Mac and new Windows
versions on the main submit page.

Oh, and one other thing I now realize I forgot to mention on the
the site (though I might have added it by the time you read
this); before you submit an URL, it’s a good idea to ‘renew’ the
page. What I mean by this is to make an change in your HTML file,
so that the search engines will see it as a new page.
Apparently many search engines ignore repeat submissions of
identical pages with the same creation date. Some may even
penalize you for spamming the engine. In addition, I’ve read that
the Go/Infoseek engine for one, gives newer pages a slight
‘boost’ in ranking.
The changes you make need not be significant. You can change the
date stamp by simply cutting a bit of text, pasting it back again
and then saving the file. I think it’s better to actually make a
change though, so that the new file doesn’t match the one the SE
may have already indexed. Just change a word somewhere.

Don’t forget to bookmark the page when you get there. It will
make life easier for you.
For maximum benefit, you really need to submit everyday (not the
same URL!), or at least once a week. Why? Well, the main reason
is that just because you’ve submitted a page, it doesn’t mean
that the search engine will actually add it to it’s index.
Another is that you are ensured of always having some pages in
the queue waiting to be indexed, even if the SE looses some of
it’s data (which seems not so infrequent these days, especially
with all the sharing of databases that’s going on).

were. Publishing ebooks is a winner!
